How to make Potli/ Drawstring Bag (Step by step)
Potli bag is very much in today's fashion. this can be used for coin storage to aesthetic purpose like in marriage function and all. The most important point for the acceptance of this bag till date is this it needs one pull and that is it. Need no fastening makes it super easy to carry and use. So, today we will learn how to make Potli bags (with lining).
Material Required for Potli bag:
1. Fabric
2. Drafting
3. Scissors
4. Thread
5. Needle (in handwork)
6. Sewing machine
7. Pearl head pins
8. Decorative string and some other material to decorate the bag.
Material Required
Procedure (with pictures):
1. Iron the fabric to straighten out the creases.
2. Place the drafting over the fabric and attach it with pearl head pins to make sure it will be on the place while marking.
3. Cut two rectangles and two strips according the drafting.
4. Attach the strips on both sides of a rectangle (Make sure the ractangle on which you're attaching these strips is for outer body of bag, incase you're using printed or decorative fabric otherwise it will be ok, no need of special attention for plain fabric).
5. Sew both edges of the rectangle and make it pocket kind of structure.
6. Join both the pockets from the wrong side of the fabric.
7. Leave some unstitched space, its very important step to remind.
As you can see in this picture, I have left the space here, it will help you to draw thr ight side of the bag inside out.
Then take a safety pin, hair pin or anything you have to cross the string from the strips we made on the bag.
Make a knot on both side of the strings and pull them, you will get a perfect drawstring look on the bag. you can see in the next picture.
There are some variations you can see , I have string the beads to hide the knots and mirror work is also done on one bag. one thing always keep in mind while making potli bags, if you want to make any motif or any thing on your potli bag just do that part before sewing just after the cutting of the fabric.
Thank You so much for being here!!
Lots of Love to y'all. Keep Learning and make your life a better world.
